Decorating Tips

All Floors

  • A lighter floor makes a room appear larger.

  • A darker floor absorbs light to create a warmer, more intimate environment in a large room.

  • Large patterns usually open up a room and make it appear larger.

  • Small patterns give the room a cozier, more contained feel.

  • A border or contrasting color can be used as a transition from an existing floor to a non-matching floor in a different room.

Wood Floors

  • Darker woods can have a more formal look.

  • Lighter woods such as natural or whitewashed tones have a more casual style.

  • Narrow width boards may visually expand a room.

  • Wide width boards usually work better in a larger room.

  • Random width boards may be used for traditional or country/colonial decors.

  • For high traffic areas such as kitchen, use satin finish.

  • For moderated traffic areas, such as family rooms, use semi gloss.

  • For low traffic areas such as dining room and bedrooms, high gloss finish.

  • Laying floor in the opposite direction of an existing non-matching floor can be used as a transition.

  • Laying floor diagonally can focus the flow within a room.
